A) Should be shunned and live broke in this world, not making it, distressed due to not being able to pay their bills? OR,
B) They should be paid approximately twice (this is what “double honour” means – not lavish yet over and above) the average pay in order that they have no worries about finances and are therefore able to contiguously perform with no concerns the infinitely most important and only eternal work in the earth?
Here’s the neglected passage:
“Let the elders that rule well be counted worthy of double honour, especially they who labour in the word and doctrine. 18 For the scripture saith, Thou shalt not muzzle the ox that treadeth out the corn. And, The labourer is worthy of his reward.” 1 Timothy 5:17-18
The answer is B.
In repeating this divine command “Thou shalt not muzzle the ox that treadeth out the corn,” he is speaking of feeding, supplying, reciprocating the ox that you are receiving benefit from. The pictorial illustration is one of agricultural. Think about it: You own land and farm it. You use animals to sow the seeds and harvest the crops. Now, those animals are benefiting you and it’s a small duty for you to keep them fed and replenished and supplied, right? Yes and so it only hurts you to starve them, right?

This is a divine command saints and therefore a personal responsibility God has given you. The Bible is full of the divine promise to replenish your personal supply when you obey Him.
“Honour the LORD with thy substance, and with the firstfruits of all thine increase: 10 So shall thy barns be filled with plenty, and thy presses shall burst out with new wine.” Proverbs 3:9-10
“But this I say, He which soweth sparingly shall reap also sparingly; and he which soweth bountifully shall reap also bountifully. 7 Every man according as he purposeth in his heart, so let him give; not grudgingly, or of necessity: for God loveth a cheerful giver. 8 And God is able to make all grace abound toward you; that ye, always having all sufficiency in all things, may abound to every good work: 9 (As it is written, He hath dispersed abroad; he hath given to the poor: his righteousness remaineth for ever. 10 Now he that ministereth seed to the sower both minister bread for your food, and multiply your seed sown, and increase the fruits of your righteousness;) 11 Being enriched in every thing to all bountifulness, which causeth through us thanksgiving to God.” 2 Corinthians 9:6-11

Think about it: YOUR personal life is greatly bettered today due to those who have preached to you the very words of God. And the Bible specifically instructs you to fund those who feed you.
