Jesus: The Master Military Strategist

master

God came to earth as a vulnerable, meek, loving, little man, a man who somehow was able to lure Satan out from his Old Testament world stronghold, deception, disguise and cover. He caused Satan to come out into the open in the New Testament culminating in a final attack against Jesus at Calvary. This assault against Jesus by all the powers of darkness mysteriously resulted in their own destruction. Col 2:14-15. This is the paschal mystery; the hidden, but now revealed, secret of the cross. 1 Cor 2:6-8.

DRUM ROLL: Here is “the revelation of the mystery” (Rom 16:25): The real KILLER of the Old Testament and today is Satan. The real Savior, since before time began, is Jesus, the One who was KILLED! And God is the Master Military Strategist! He always baits the enemy into destroying himself. The Great Murder Mystery of the Old Testament is solved! Like most great murder mysteries, there is an ironic twist at the end. God is not a killer after all. Satan is!

This scenario is portrayed throughout the Bible. In this piece, I will examine passages that show the principle of evil being LURED OUT into the open, EXPOSED and then DESTROYED by its own devices. Ps 5:10; 7:15-16; 9:15-16; 10:2. It is related to the fishhook theory piece I wrote on some time ago.

In Exodus 14 and 15, Pharoah, His chariots, and army, a foreshadowing of Satan, his principalities and powers, are drawn out of their stronghold, Egypt, a type of the world, into the open against the vulnerable, helpless, weaponless Israelites who Pharoah has hemmed in against the Red Sea thinking they are there sitting ducks. God then allows an evil “east wind” (compare Ex 14:21 to Hos 12:1) to blow back the sea waters thereby dividing and opening an expanse in the midst. God then steps back in to restrain the evil waters long enough for the Israelites to CROSS to safety then releases the evil waters to flood and destroy Pharoah’s army. This Red Sea incident is a prefigurement of our baptism into the death of Christ which frees the believer from the tyrannies of Sin, the Law and Satan’s power. Rom 6 and 7. The CROSS delivers the believer but destroys the unbeliever.

And it was told the king of Egypt that the people fled: and the heart of Pharoah and of his servants was turned against the people, and they said, Why have we done this, that we have let Israel go from serving us? And he made ready his chariot, and took his people with him. Ex 14:5-6.

And with the blast of thy nostrils (nostrils of the fiery dragon, Satan) the waters were gathered together, the floods stood up as a heap, and the depths were congealed in the heart of the sea. The enemy (Pharoah, a type of Satan) said, I will pursue, I will overtake, I will “divide the spoil” (a term Isaiah uses in his prophecy of the cross; Is 53:12), my lust shall be satisfied upon them; I will draw my sword, my hand shall destroy them. Thou didst blow with thy wind, the sea covered them: they sank as lead in the mighty waters. Ex 15:8-10. (The above parentheticals are mine).

Evil is here destroyed by a combination of its own devices. The lust of evil to enslave and dominate, the evil east wind, the evil killing flood and evil’s own pursuit and assault. God’s only part is to allow, restrain then release evil to destroy. The Israelites are delivered by a “war” (Ex 15:3) in which neither they nor their God ever lift a finger in violence. Evil is lured out of its stronghold against a vulnerable opponent and thereby self-destructs.

A second scenario is found in Joshua 8. Joshua and his army here defeat the King of Ai and his men by stationing two units near the city during the night. One unit approaches the city, allows themselves to be seen by people of Ai, then begin to flee from Ai, feigning weakness and fear. The enemy In Ai is drawn out of the city by this in pursuit of Joshua’s fleeing band. As soon as they are all gone out of the city, Joshua’s other unit, hidden behind the city, advance into the city stronghold, set it on fire and then pursue the men of Ai from behind. Ai is caught is in a vice in the valley between the two units of Joshua. Ai is crushed. The King of Ai is taken alive and verse 29 below provides the main clue that this entire scene in Joshua 8 is a foreshadowing of Satan’s defeat at the cross. Although Jesus was hung there, Satan, (represented here by the King of Ai) was really the one hung in the death of Christ. Col 2:14-15; Heb 2:14; 1 Cor 2:6-8. Ai had been drawn out, exposed and ambushed by a seemingly weak and vulnerable opponent.

V29 reads: And the King of Ai he hanged on a tree until eventide: and as soon as the sun was down, Joshua commanded that they should take his carcase down from the tree, and cast it at the entering of the gate of the city, and raise thereon a great heap of stones, that remained unto this day.

When Jesus appeared on earth, He drew Satan out of hiding into the open and crushed him on the tree of the cross. Gal 3:10-13.

As Paul warms himself next to a fire of gathered sticks in Acts 28:1-6, a viper leaps out of the fire, fastens itself onto Paul and “hangs” there from his hand. Paul then “shook off” the viper back into the fire, destroyed it and felt no harm. Paul here is a type of Jesus at Calvary. Satan and his evil powers, drawn out of hiding in disguise in the Old Testament, fastened themselves onto Christ at the cross. Thru the cross, Jesus was able to take on Satan and “shook” or “strip off” the devil. The word “spoiled” in Col 2:15 KJV Can also be translated “stripped off.” He stripped the dark powers off and put them away from Himself at Calvary. This stripping or spoiling of them is referred to by Paul as the “circumcision of Christ.” Col 2:11. Interestingly, the term “shook off” is also used in the Red Sea incident. In Exodus 14:27, the word “overthrew” in the phrase “overthrew the Egyptians in the midst of sea” is also translated “shook off” in the margin of the Cambridge edition KJV. Jesus’ presence on earth drew out and took on Satan at the cross and then, thru the resurrection, shook him off back into the fire of his own destruction.

Satan is only mentioned about 5 times in the Old Testament. But when drawn out of his cover by Jesus, he is spoken of numerous times in the New. We will now look at other New Testament passages which prove my point.

In the book of John, “the Jews” representing their “father, the devil” (John 8:44) are constantly drawn out into the open in confrontations with Jesus. One highlight is found in John 8 where they drag the woman caught in adultery to Jesus testing and taunting Him to cause her to be condemned, stoned and killed. Jesus does not, so then at the end of the chapter, the Jews are trying to kill Him instead of the woman. They finally do succeed in killing Him but in the end they are the real losers. Their religion, their temple and their law was destroyed through the very death of Him that they instigated. The zeal of their house, in eating Him up, swallowed up themselves.

In Matt 8:28-34, two devils are drawn out into the open to meet Jesus, coming out of their cover in “the tombs.” They can’t resist a confrontation with Him, asking if He has come to torment them. They recognize Him as the Son of God then beg Him that He will suffer them to go into a herd of swine. He then politely answers their prayer and sends them away off into a herd of swine which promptly run violently down a steep slope perishing in the waters of the sea, a destruction the devils caused to themselves by their own actions. Jesus did nothing here but show up and grant their request like the true gentleman that He always is. Notice hostility is totally on the side of these devils. Jesus conquers them by granting their own request and giving them the freedom to destroy themselves. This is always how God and His Son handle evil confrontations. He “resists not evil” directly (Matt 5:39) but allows it to run its course and indirectly self-destruct. He always overcomes evil with good. Rom 12:17-21 @v21. It is never an eye for eye or performance-based attack on evil by Jesus. God, as manifested in Jesus, is always unconditional love. There is no division in Him. He is single and pure, never dualistic. He will, however, allow you to judge and destroy yourself. He is never coercive or threatening. He is just loving, peaceful and kind, both to the wicked and the good. Matt 5:38-48; Luke 6:35. He gives everyone the freedom to receive Him or reject and walk away.

So what does all this mean to us. We, like Jesus, are called to walk out into the world, drawing Satan out, presenting our bodies as living sacrifices, being vulnerable as He was, as lambs in the midst of wolves (Luke 10:1-4), turning the other cheek, absorbing the blows and allowing evil to come out of hiding and self-destruct. When you love an enemy in a way unexpected by him, you may destroy the evil in him right there on the spot.

It is “the peace of God” only that will ever really crush evil. Rom 16:20. Love is the only force in the universe that will ultimately overcome evil. Love is the only thing “as strong as death.” Song of Sol 8:8.

Our faith is in Jesus. We believe that the paschal mystery will play itself out. Evil will run its course and self-destruct in the face of our love. Satan will continually be lured out into the open and be allowed, thru the principle of the cross, to self-destruct. Heb 2:14. Our part is to die to self and allow the agape self-sacrificial love of our Savior to flow thru us into the world.

GOD IS TRULY THE MASTER MILITARY STRATEGIST FOR THE CONQUERING OF EVIL.

In the Old Testament, the killing murdering god (1 Sam 15:1-10) is really Satan disguising himself as the true God until the devil is later smoked out by the cross. Many Christians are still blinded to this. 2 Cor 4:3-4. The murder mystery has been solved. The veil is rent and taken away in Christ.

Jesus came to show us what “the only true God” is really like. John 17:3. God allowed Satan to deceive the whole world and has even taken the blame for what Satan did in the violent portraits of God in Old Testament scripture. For the evils Satan did to Job, God took the blame. Job was never told Satan was the true perpetrator. God took Satan’s blame in the Old Testament. Satan is the only real perpetrator of death. Death is the last enemy of God that will be destroyed. 1 Cor 15:26.

KILLING IS A SIN AND GOD DOES NOT DO IT. GOD IS THE DIER, NEVER THE KILLER. HE IS THE MASTER STRATEGIST!

Seeking the Presence of the LORD?

god presence

Seeking His Presence? Beware of the many methods created and cloaked as Christian which are nothing more than an attempt to conjure up God’s presence out of a self-serving agenda. Contemplative prayer and soaking come to mind as Satan’s counterfeits.
Simply put, contemplative prayer or centering prayer, is a way of praying that is not according to the biblical prescription. Contemplative prayers and soakers are simply rebels who refuse to obey Jesus so they want Jesus to just continue to dump His Holy Spirit on their rebellious hearts.

JESUS told you to die, not to run around seeking His presence in contemplative prayer or soaking meetings – with other self-serving flakes, counterfeits. He’ll decide that how much of His holy presence He puts on individuals – according to their personal obedience. He alone decides how much of His presence He chooses to put in our lives.

obliencePsalms 16 is prophetic of Jesus who rendered perfect obedience to His Father: “For thou wilt not leave my (Jesus’) soul in hell; neither wilt thou suffer thine Holy One to see corruption. 11 Thou wilt shew me the path of life: in thy presence is fulness of joy; at thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore.” (Psalms 16:10-11)The “presence” of the LORD and “fulness of joy” He alone can give, only comes with the true disciple who is truly walking with Christ. We see this throughout Scripture.

“In his presence” sure is “fulness of joy” and He requires our obedience to bring us into His presence (Psalms 16:11).

“For he whom God hath sent (Christ) speaketh the words of God (fully obedient): for God giveth not the Spirit by measure unto him.” John 3:34

As seen in the above verse, where Christ is our example, the LORD’s presence in our lives is contingent upon our abiding in Him, obeying Him (John 14:21-23, etc.). Seeking His presence without obeying Him, truly worshiping HIM, reveals a self-serving nature. We don’t seek the joy or His presence – We seek His face (Jeremiah 29:11-14).

IF you truly want more of the presence of the LORD, no need to mindlessly sit soaking or meditating. Get up and obey and then and only then will He graciously grant you greater anointing and reward!

We are to immerse yourself in His Word – Joshua 1:8 not mindless meditation which is new age paganism.

Many today want God to do more for them, they want more of His presence and to “soak” and yet, they’ve not obeyed Him and His simplest instructions. Not going to happen.

YOU can pray till you are blue in the face and God will not hear if you will not repent and literally obey Him: Proverbs 28:9 says: “He that turneth away his ear from hearing the law (Word), even his prayer shall be abomination.”

“If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you.” John 15:7

Of course we should seek and ask Him to be anointed and full of His Spirit in order to DO His work, and yet, such comes from laying down our lives – which He then raises upward by His presence.

“Always bearing about in the body the dying of the Lord Jesus, that the life also of Jesus might be made manifest in our body. 11 For we which live are alway delivered unto death for Jesus’ sake, that the life also of Jesus might be made manifest in our mortal flesh. 12 So then death worketh in us, but life in you.” 2 Corinthians 4:10-12

The resurrection presence, life, glory, and power of Jesus fills and raises up the truly obedient – those who resign themselves to the crucified life.

praygisNancy Cote notes: “This movement is growing by leaps and bounds because this generation loves signs and wonders and what their itching ears want more than Sola Scripture of solid doctrine. Dying to self and picking up their cross and preaching of The Cross that is foolishness to them.”

Yet, Jesus’ presence does not come to us just because WE want it to. Isn’t a preoccupation with seeking His presence while not obeying Him cloaked pride? There are conditions to be met – obedience and truly worshiping HIM are essential. This is in contrast to seeking His presence for our self-serving purposes. Remember how the disciples wanted to sit at His right and and His left?

“Then came to him the mother of Zebedee’s children with her sons, worshipping him, and desiring a certain thing of him. 21 And he said unto her, What wilt thou? She saith unto him, Grant that these my two sons may sit, the one on thy right hand, and the other on the left, in thy kingdom. 22 But Jesus answered and said, Ye know not what ye ask. Are ye able to drink of the cup that I shall drink of, and to be baptized with the baptism that I am baptized with? They say unto him, We are able. 23 And he saith unto them, Ye shall drink indeed of my cup, and be baptized with the baptism that I am baptized with: but to sit on my right hand, and on my left, is not mine to give, but it shall be given to them for whom it is prepared of my Father.” Matthew 20:20-23

When you die – lay down your life – He will reciprocate with His resurrection life (2 Corinthians 4:10-12). That’s His promise but you must die to experience this, not try to control things yourself which is further evidence that you are not dying to self. He’s in control, not you.

Fact: Jesus says that to those who OBEY Him – live by faith – will be granted His presence, not those who selfishly seek to soak or conjure up His presence through their own merit or works for their own self–serving purposes.

Seeking His presence is paramount to seeking signs instead of the Savior Himself. What did Jesus say of the sign seekers?

“Then certain of the scribes and of the Pharisees answered, saying, Master, we would see a sign from thee. 39 But he answered and said unto them, An evil and adulterous generation seeketh after a sign; and there shall no sign be given to it, but the sign of the prophet Jonas:” Matthew 12:38-39

Seeking His Presence or Simply Obeying Christ?
“He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me: and he that loveth me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest myself to him. 22 Judas saith unto him, not Iscariot, Lord, how is it that thou wilt manifest thyself unto us, and not unto the world? 23 Jesus answered and said unto him, If a man love me, he will keep my words: and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him.” John 14:21-23

Today, so many who vainly believe they are Christ’s, are being misled into self-seeking experiences they are told are of God. Quite a contrast with New Testament disciples of Jesus we read about in the 27 book canon. The honest student of Scripture and follower of Jesus knows that a walk of faith, a denial of self (the cross), soundly grounded in the Word, is the walk of a true New Testament believer.

“And we are his witnesses of these things; and so is also the Holy Ghost, whom God hath given to them that obey him.” Acts 5:32

It seems that today, many people claiming to know Jesus, seek to do anything except soberly and soundly follow Him, denying self, taking up the cross, and abiding in Him.

According to Jesus, in the end, at the Judgment, those who loved and obeyed Him will be received into glory and remain with Him eternally. In contrast, those who revel in the experiential, not being rooted in Christ, will be terminated into the bowels of eternal damnation (Matthew 7:21-23).

How to Know You are being Led by the Spirit

11Spirit

“For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.” Romans 8:14

Yes it is those who are led by the Holy Spirit of God that are revealed to be truly of God. Yet, who are those people? Among all who claim to be following Jesus, who are those that make up His “little flock”? (Luke 12:32) Jesus made it clear that “many” who fully believe they are His really are not following Him and are not His and will be rejected in the end for not truly adhering to His Word (Matthew 7:21-29, etc.).

The Word of God is the only foundation that will not be washed away in the coming judgment (Matthew 7:21-29; Hebrews 12:24-29, etc.).

THE WRITTEN WORD OF GOD IS THE UNCHANGING WILL OF GOD.

Are you grounded in God’s Word?

The “MORE Sure Word” is God’s Written Word

Many today claim and believe they are being led by the LORD’s Holy Spirit and yet those same people believe and are doing things contrary to what the Holy Spirit of God gave us in His written Word. Who’s wrong, those people or the LORD Almighty?

There are so many today who believe they are of God and led of His Spirit and yet, are Christ’s people to believe every person who claims to be led of the Spirit?

“Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits (against the written Word) whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world.” 1 John 4:1

The LORD’s apostle Paul came in the name of the LORD and yet, the noble believers in the city of Berea put him to the test as we do with our own hearts and all mere men:

“And the brethren immediately sent away Paul and Silas by night unto Berea: who coming thither went into the synagogue of the Jews. 11 These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so.” Acts 17:10-11

Divine Truth Recorded! “the record that God gave of his Son” is on “RECORD” in the Bible

In His blessed written Word, the LORD has given us “ALL things that pertain unto life and Godliness” and all who do not believe that “record” – that which is on written record – are shown to be “not of God.” (John 8:47; 2 Peter 1:3-4)

“He that believeth on the Son of God hath the witness in himself: he that believeth not God hath made him a liar; because he believeth not the record that God gave of his Son. 11 And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. 12 He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life. 13 These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God.” 1 John 5:10-13

Knowing We are in the Truth

todd tomasella books

Many today speak often of being led of the Spirit and yet never mention the Word. Beware! The primary way the LORD guides His New Testament church (individually and corporately) in through the Holy Scripture (2 Timothy 3:15-17, etc.). No one who is not living and being led according to the Word, is being led by the Spirit of God. In some cases, those who claim they are led by the Spirit wish to divorce themselves from truly adhering to the perfect Lordship of Jesus presented in His written Word and don’t want what they consider constraints. The true follower of Christ says with the psalmist:

“Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.” Psalms 119:105 (memorize today)

Regrettably, many today have been misled by the “many false prophets” who have taught them that after being saved they are not personally responsible to continue in Christ which means continuing in His Word (John 8:31-32; 15:1-6, etc.).

2 ways we can know we are in the truth and of the truth and discern whether or not others are being led of the LORD:

1. By knowing we are hearing and believing the Word of God which is the “MORE sure Word”:

“For we have not followed cunningly devised fables, when we made known unto you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but were eyewitnesses of his majesty. 17 For he received from God the Father honour and glory, when there came such a voice to him from the excellent glory, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased. 18 And this voice which came from heaven we heard, when we were with him in the holy mount. 19 We have also a more sure word of prophecy; whereunto ye do well that ye take heed, as unto a light that shineth in a dark place, until the day dawn, and the day star arise in your hearts: 20 Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation. 21 For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost.” 2 Peter 1:16-21

2. By obeying God’s Word practically:

“My little children, let us not love in word, neither in tongue; but in deed and in truth. 19 And hereby we know that we are of the truth, and shall assure our hearts before him.” 1 John 3:18-19

How to Make Sure You Are Following Jesus – Being Led of His Holy Spirit (synonymous)

predators-larger-shadow3“Bind up the testimony (written Word), seal the law (Word) among my disciples. … To the law and to the testimony: if they speak not according to this word, it is because there is no light in them.” Isaiah 8:16, 20

A fuller portion of this magnificent text will further open our eyes:

“Bind up the testimony, seal the law among my disciples. 17 And I will wait upon the LORD, that hideth his face from the house of Jacob, and I will look for him. 18 Behold, I and the children whom the LORD hath given me are for signs and for wonders in Israel from the LORD of hosts, which dwelleth in mount Zion. 19 And when they shall say unto you, Seek unto them that have familiar spirits, and unto wizards that peep, and that mutter: should not a people seek unto their God? for the living to the dead? 20 To the law and to the testimony: if they speak not according to this word, it is because there is no light in them.” Isaiah 8:16-20

v16 The Word is to be bound to the individual believer. All true servants of Christ endeavor His people to His written Word, the primary way the LORD leads His New Testament believers and church (2 Timothy 3:16-16, etc.).

v17 The LORD is not available to the casual seeker but rather those who diligently seek Him (Jeremiah 29:11-14; Matthew 6:6; 2 Timothy 2:15, etc.)

v18 As God’s Word becomes flesh in His saints, powerful things happen by His holy hand

v19 There are many evil spirits with falsehoods and false doctrines and only the believer who clings to the truth, the written Word, will escape (1 Timothy 4:1-2, etc.)

v20 As we diligently discern by weighing all things against the written Word, we will know who is of the truth and not a wolf in sheep’s clothing by the Word of God (Matthew 7:15-15; John 8:47; Acts 17:10-11; 2 Timothy 2:15, etc.)

Jesus says:
“Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come. 14 He shall glorify me: for he shall receive of mine, and shall shew it unto you.” John 16:13-14
There is no possibility “the Spirit of truth” would lead anyone to read or listen to that which contradicts and perverts His truth (John 16:13-14; 17:17) . “(For the fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness and righteousness and truth;)” (Ephesians 5:9) …. Jesus says the Holy Spirit only leads people into the truth …. Any person who believes the Holy Spirit of God led them to listen to or buy the books of a wolf, is under the influence of “another spirit” which is from Satan (2 Corinthians 11:2-5; Galatians 1:6-9).
We are directly instructed to cease listening to all who do not speak strictly according to the Word of God:
“Cease, my son, to hear the instruction that causeth to err from the words of knowledge.” Proverbs 19:27

His Sanctified Saints

The body of Christ is being daily washed by the water of God’s Word as we fervently look for the soon return of Christ (Ephesians 5:25-27). The remnant believer allows the Word of the LORD to establish His sound doctrine in his life and is corrected by the Word as he sees his thoughts and believers did not align. This is how the saint of Christ is sanctified – set apart to the LORD.

God’s Two-Edged Sword: The Cross of Christ

heb-4-12g-696x236

The Cross is the sword of God’s violence against evil. The cross even looks like an ancient sword with a handle, a hilt, a blade with two edges and a point.

For the word of God (the Word of the Cross; 1 Cor 1:17-18) is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any TWO-EDGED SWORD, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. Heb 4:12.

The cross is two-edged because it frees and saves believers as it destroys unbelievers who reject and rebel against it. It cuts both ways, both saving and destroying depending on how people respond to its truth. It is this Word of the Cross that judges all people by allowing them to judge themselves. God and His Son, Jesus, judge no one. John 5:22; 8:15; 12:47-48; 12:31; 16:11.

The sword of the cross is like the fiery furnace of Daniel 3. The furnace saved and promoted God’s three men but destroyed the mighty men who pushed the three down into the fire. Dan 3:20-25.

Christ died and thereby destroyed Satan’s power of death, Satan’s works and the fallen nature of the old man. Heb 2:14; 1 Cor 2:6-9; 1 John 3:8; and Rom 6:6, KJV. But that same cross was the salvation and redemption of all who believe into Christ. Satan’s sword and wrath against Jesus, the cross, became God’s sword and wrath against Satan. It cut two ways: AGAINST Satan and His people and FOR God and His people.

In Judges 7, the sword of the enemy against Gideon’s army became God’s sword against the enemy. Judges 7:18-22.

31 cross prayer for christ book

Goliath’s sword cut for God’s man, David, and against Goliath. David cut Goliath’s head off using Goliath’s sword to do it. 1 Sam 17:41-54 @v51.

Saul’s sword was two-edged, too. Saul’s own sword killed Saul (suicide) but elevated Saul’s enemy, David, to the throne of Israel.

The sword of Satan, the cross, destroyed Satan and elevated Christ to glory. Heb 2:14.

The sword of the cross destroys Satan’s best inside agent, the flesh, and elevates our spirit man to the throne of glory with Jesus, seated with Christ in heavenly places. Eph 2:6; Gal 5:24.

How will this two-edged cross cut in you: against you or for you? Every moment of every day you are deciding whether to take up the sword of the cross, die on it and be saved by it OR take it up against someone else and be destroyed by it. Luke 9:23-25.

See also Isaiah 8:13-15 for another example of this two-edged sword of the cross where, in the same event, comfort is given to those who trust God and simultaneous destruction to those who trust their idols.

He who takes up the sword shall die by his own sword! Matt 26:52.

Think not that I am come to send peace on earth but a sword (the two-edged cross). Matt 10:34.

God’s sword is not a sword He used in order to kill people. It is a sword to save people that He died on. By dying he destroyed His enemy, Satan and the devil’s power of death was put to the sword. Heb 2:14.

This metaphorical sword of God is last seen in Rev 19:15. And out of his mouth goeth a sharp sword, that with it he should smite the nations: and he shall rule them with a rod of iron: and he treadeth the winepress (also symbolic of the Christ on the cross) of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God. The sword coming out of Christ’s mouth is the Word of the Cross that will destroy evil in the end time as it has throughout the New Testament.

The cross is God’s only sword. It is also His winepress and wrath against evil. God will never take up a literal sword against anyone. Otherwise, He would have to die by His own sword, by His own rule stated in Matt 26:52.

There are two edges to the use of the word “sword” in the Bible, Satan’s literal sword, the cross, and God’s metaphorical sword, the cross. Both swords are found in one and the the same sword, the same cross, the two-edged cross of Christ.

So he drove out the man; and he placed at the east of the garden of Eden Cheribims, a flaming sword (symbol for the cross) which turned every way (two-edged), to keep the way of the tree of life. The two-edged sword both opens and closes the way to life, the eternal life of Christ.

Who is wise, and he shall understand these things? prudent, and he shall know them? for the ways of the Lord (ways of the cross) are right, and the JUST (the just shall live by faithing it thru the Cross experiences) shall walk in them (the ways of the cross): but the TRANSGRESSORS (rejectors of Christ and His cross) shall fall therein. Hos 14:9. Thus, the two-edged sword of the cross both saves and destroys!

And they said, Lord, behold, here are two swords. And He said unto them, It is enough. Luke 22:38.

The two swords are found in the one cross: one a literal sword of Satan, with which to kill and thereby conquer; the other a spiritual sword of Christ, on which to die and thereby conquer.

The Foolishness of the Cross

foolishness of cross

For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but to us which are (being) saved it is the power of God. 1 Cor 1:18.

Here are the reasons why the message of the cross is foolishness to the world. The natural mind cannot see the wisdom of these paradoxical principles of the cross.

The Way to:

  • healing is through pain. By His stripes we are healed; 1 Pet 2:24;
  • real life, resurrection life, is thru death, dying to self; 2 Cor 4:10-11;
  • increase is through decrease; John 3:30;
  • gain is thru loss; Philip 3:7-8;
    kill evil is by kindness; Rom 12:17-21;
  • extinguish blows against you is by absorbing those blows in loving non retaliation; Matt 5:38-45;
  • invincibility is through vulnerability; be a lamb among wolves; Luke 10:1-4;
  • victory is not by war but by peace; Rom 16:20;
  • strength is through weakness; 2 Cor 12:7-10;
  • promotion is through demotion; Luke 14:7-11;
  • inherit the earth is not by strength of force but by meekness; Matt 5:5;
  • comfort is thru mourning; Matt 5:4;
  • kingship is thru poverty; Luke 6:20;
  • conquering life is by being killed or slaughtered all day long everyday like a sheep; Rom 8:36-37.
  • being filled is by first being emptied, hungered and thirsty; Matt 5:6; Phili 2:5-11.
  • having a great reputation is thru becoming a person of no reputation; Phili 2:7.
  • become a chief is thru being a slave; be first is by being last; Matt 10:24-25; Matt 20:20-28; Matt 19:20;
  • be loved is to be hated; Matt 10:22;
  • winning thru the court is by suffering yourself to lose the lawsuit; 1 Cor 6:7;
  • grow and multiply is by falling down and dying; John 12:23-25;
  • be transformed is not by trying to transform but by surrender; Rom 12:1-2;
  • to learn to get it right is by getting it wrong; to succeed is thru failure; Luke 18:9-14;
  • get control is by giving up control or dying to your methods of control;
  • rise above (resurrection) is by coming under (death); to overcome or to stand over
  • is to come under or to stand under (to understand); Rom 8:35-37;
  • keep the rules of law is by dying to or getting out from under the influence of the law; Rom 6:14; 7:1-24;
  • stay afloat is to sink down; Book of Jonah;
  • work is to rest; Heb 4:1-11;
  • arm yourselves against an enemy is to disarm yourselves of all carnal weapons; 2 Cor 10:1-5; 1 Pet 4:1-2;
  • stand worthy is to be slaughtered as a lamb; to win battles is not by the wrath of a lion but by the wrath of a lamb (thru crucifixion with Christ); Rev 5:6; 6:16;
  • win is by superior love not superior force; to fight is not by fighting but faithing; John 18:36;
  • gain more weight of God’s glory is by being stripped of earthly glory; 2 Cor 4:16–17:
    put on the new is to put off the old; Eph 4:22-24;
  • being great among men is to be a slave to men; Matt 20:26-27.
  • These concepts make no sense to the natural man’s mind. They are foolishness to him. But they are the wisdom of God to the supernatural born again/new mind.

Because the foolishness of God is wiser than men; and the weakness of God is stronger than men. 1 Cor 1:25.

Remarriage? What Does the Bible Teach?

divorce-remarriage

Summary of what the Bible teaches on divorce and remarriage.

Marriage was originally intended to be permanent when instituted by its Designer (Matthew 19:3-6). The following words are presented to bring to light what the Almighty has stated concerning the unfortunate issues that face the victims of marital sins and what instructions and liberties He has sovereignly granted in such cases. Through the preponderance of Scripture it becomes clear that just like our covenant relationship with the LORD, so marriage is conditional upon the continued fidelity of each party.

The late Donald Stamps, in his Life in the Spirit Study Bible commentary wrote:

“EXCEPT IT BE FOR FORNICATION. God’s will for marriage is one mate, one marriage for life (vv. 5-6; see Gen. 2:24, Sol. 2:7; 4:12; Mal. 2:14). To this Jesus gives an exception, namely ‘fornication.’ Fornication is marital unfaithfulness (Gk. porneia) and includes adultery or any kind of sexual immorality (5:32; 19:9). Hence divorce is to be permitted when sexual immorality is involved. The following are important biblical facts concerning divorce.

(1) When Jesus criticizes divorce in 19:6-7, He is not criticizing a separation because of adultery, but a divorce permitted in the O.T. in those cases where a husband discovered premarital unchastity after the marriage ceremony had taken place (Deut. 24:1-4). God’s desire in such cases was that the two remain together. However, He permitted divorce due to premarital unchastity because of the hardness of the people’s hearts (vv. 7-8).

(2) In the case of immorality after marriage, the O.T. law prescribed the dissolving of the marriage by executing both the offending parties (Lev. 20:10; Deut. 22:22). This, of course, would leave the innocent person free to remarry (Rom. 7:2; 1 Cor. 7:39).

(3) Under the new covenant the privileges of the believer are no less. Although divorce is a tragedy, marital unfaithfulness is such a cruel sin against one’s mate that Christ states that the innocent party has a proper right to end the marriage by a divorce based on adultery. He or she is free to remarry another believer (1 Cor. 7:27-28).

(4) Paul’s treatment of marriage and desertion in 1 Cor. 7:12-16 indicates that a marriage also may be dissolved by the desertion of an unbelieving spouse. He further indicates that remarriage by the believer in such cases is not sin (see 1 Cor. 7:15; 27-28).” Donald Stamps, Life in the Spirit Study Bible, p. 1443

QUESTION:

“So can married couples divorce for any reason?”

REPLY:

No. The Bible gives 2 clear reasons for divorce and so divorce is never a “I’m tired of her/him so I’m divorcing them!” Noooo. Marriage is ordained by God to be permanent and yet, abandonment and adultery/fornication are specific sins that can break that covenant if the offended party chooses (Matthew 19:9; 1 Corinthians 7:15-16, 27-28).

September 23 Rapture Deception

23 sept Deception

Todd tomasella: All around us we see false prophets use date-setting, manipulations, false predictions, and hysteria to deceive those who are not truly abiding soundly in Christ. This late hour is not the time to be doing anything except engaging in a grounded, cross-bearing, abiding, fruit-bearing relationship with Jesus Christ (John 15).

GOD is not going to tell you the exact day of Christ’s return. Repent and get over yourself!

“But of that day and hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels of heaven, but my Father only.” Matthew 24:36

IF we could figure out the timeline/day of Christ’s return, WHY would Jesus ever have said this?: “But of that day and hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels of heaven, but my Father only.” Matthew 24:36

Cross-Less Counterfeits Exposed

End is near

Those want to be convinced that Jesus is coming back on a certain day are Christ-denying, self-serving devils as described the Holy Spirit to us right here – watch v5 in particular:

“This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come. 2 For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, 3 Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good, 4 Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God; 5 Having a form of godliness, but denying the power (authority, reign of Christ in their person life) thereof: from such turn away. 6 For of this sort are they which creep into houses, and lead captive silly women laden with sins, led away with divers lusts, 7 Ever learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth.” 2 Timothy 3:1-7

Here in Matthew 24:36 Jesus tells us that we cannot and will not know the exact day of His return. We are instructed repeatedly by Christ to live every single day as if He will return. It’s those who are not truly living for Christ daily – loving and worshiping Hm for who He is – that give ear to false prophets and cling to the date-setting hoaxes.

THE LORD IS NOT GOING TO TELL YOU THE EXACT DATE OF HIS RETURN BECAUSE HE SAYS YOU CANNOT PLEASE HIM WITHOUT FAITH – LIVING BY FAITH (2 CORINTHIANS 5:7; HEBREWS 11:6. ETC.). THE ONLY HEAVEN-BOUND SAINTS LIVE BY FAITH AND ARE DENYING THEMSELVES TODAY, TAKING UP THEIR CROSS, AND FOLLOWING JESUS (LUKE 9:23-24). AND, IF WE KNEW THE EXACT DATE OF HIS RETURN THE COUNTERFEITS WOULD WAIT TILL THE DAY BEFORE TO RENDER SOME KIND OF REPENTANCE.

“Let your loins be girded about, and your lights burning; 36 And ye yourselves like unto men that wait for their lord, when he will return from the wedding; that when he cometh and knocketh, they may open unto him immediately. 37 Blessed are those servants, whom the lord when he cometh shall find watching: verily I say unto you, that he shall gird himself, and make them to sit down to meat, and will come forth and serve them. 38 And if he shall come in the second watch, or come in the third watch, and find them so, blessed are those servants. 39 And this know, that if the goodman of the house had known what hour the thief would come, he would have watched, and not have suffered his house to be broken through. 40 Be ye therefore ready also: for the Son of man cometh at an hour when ye think not.” Luke 12:35-40

If you’ve allowed yourself to be duped by yet another date-setter who claimed to have Scripture to “prove” he knew the exact day Jesus would return, it’s time to truly repent.

SEPTEMBER 23RD WILL COME AND GO AND SHOULD MAKE IT MORE THAN OBVIOUS THAT MANY HAVE BEEN DECEIVED.

IS the “man of sin” revealed? No. Watch this:

“Now we beseech you, brethren, by the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, and by our gathering together unto him, 2 That ye be not soon shaken in mind, or be troubled, neither by spirit, nor by word, nor by letter as from us, as that the day of Christ is at hand. 3 Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition;” 2 Thessalonians 2:1-3

Times and Seasons

We know “the times and seasons” but not exact day of Christ’s return. Listen please:

“And he said unto them, It is not for you to know the times or the seasons, which the Father hath put in his own power.” Acts 1:7

“But of the times and the seasons, brethren, ye have no need that I write unto you.” 1 Thessalonians 5:1
