2 Chron 20–God’s people vastly outnumbered and caught in a trap by enemy, march down into battle anyway. Result–Enemies destroy themselves.
Esther 7, Haman, enemy of God’s people, hung on the same gallows which he himself built to destroy Mordecai.
Proverbs 1:31–Therefore shall they eat of the fruit of the own way, and be filled with their own devices. . . . The prosperity of fools shall destroy them.
Proverbs 3:34–Surely he scorneth the scorners: but he giveth grace unto the lowly.
Psalms 7:15-16–He made a pit, and digged it, and is fallen into the ditch which he made. His mischief shall return upon his own head, and his violent dealing shall come down upon his own pate.
Other examples of our enemy falling into his own trap are in Psalms: 10:2; 35:7-8; 37:14-15 (their sworn shall enter into their own heart); 57:6; 69:22.
And of course the chief of all examples, the reality of the principle: Satan and his followers killing Jesus at Calvary, an event which led, is leading and will lead to Satan’s total downfall. Col 2:15. Christ triumphed over Satan “in it,” the cross. If they had known what they were doing they would never have crucified the Lord of Glory. 1 Cor 2:8.
This principle of the cross is still working today. The cross events that the enemy brings into and around us, responded to in faith, will result in our salvation and transformation but will also mean our enemies’ defeat.
Who are these enemies that will fall into their own pit? They are both internal and external but all are rooted in Satan. The flesh, the self-life, the sin nature, sickness, bad thoughts, death, the curse of the Mosaic Law (Gal 3:10-13), Satan, his angelic and demonic powers, the elements, the “powers that be,” evil people, religious people, legalistic people, slanderous people, controlling people, malicious people, etc. These are all enemies.
We wrestle not against flesh and blood but against principalities and powers, against the rulers of darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. Eph 6:12.
So how do we repond to enemy tactics? Do we realize the benefits they bring us? Or do we run away from the pit they have dug for us? Do we try to handle their opposition to us in our own ability? Do we avoid it by drinking or taking drugs? Do we try to escape in some manner or kill the pain? No, all these counter-tactics will mean we miss the victory! Our response is to stay right in the misdt of it and embrace the situation, the suffering, believing God will use it to rescue us from and destroy the enemy in it. Our enemies cleanse and prune our vine.
We let ourselves be handed over to death daily trusting that God will raise us up but will also destroy our enemies in the process. 2 Cor 4:7-18 especially @ v11.
This is a great spiritual principle of the cross and a way God uses to purge the earth of all opposition to Him and His people! It is done thru His Son’s suffering, death, burial, and resurrection but only as we agree to participate in it. He lets the devil fall into His own pit. He destroys Satan with the very weapon Satan constructed against Him and us, the Cross of Christ.
